A Million Dollar Question . Who is the Godfather of Cricket ? The godfather of cricket, Willian Gilbert Grace, was an English cricket player. His passion for cricket was so great that he threw his all into the game. He attempted to pursue a career in cricket from 1865 to 1908. He coincidentally faced Australia on both his first and final game in 1880.

MS Dhoni: Godfather of Team India

We can certainly refer to MS Dhoni as the godfather of Team India if Sachin is the god of cricket. He kept leading Team India by example even after great players retired. He was mentoring his sons and frequently offered them advice on how to be successful in international cricket. He first gave up Test captaincy to make room for Virat Kohli to succeed him once he realised his time as captain was gone.

His decision to quit from Test cricket enabled him to concentrate on shorter formats. He knew he had plenty left in him, so in the ODIs and T20 internationals, he gave up captaincy and concentrated mostly on hitting. Fortunately for Team India, he chose not to retire and ended up being the team’s godfather.

India is the country with the highest number of cricket watchers because of its massive population and the second-largest sports league in the world, the Indian Premier League, which is run by the Indian cricket board, BCCI.  Of the great group of Indian cricketing legends, there are very few people who despise MS Dhoni.

Over his tenure as captain, MS Dhoni participated in 538 international matches and had a winning percentage of almost 55%. The way MS Dhoni led Indian cricket through its most significant period of transition—arguably the greatest in history—earns him the title of Godfather of Cricket not just in India but throughout the world.

“MS Dhoni is the cricket equivalent of the university; he is an expert in the sport. He manages the game deftly and doesn’t think it’s appropriate to reprimand the players in the locker room. Vinay Kumar stated, “Dhoni clarifies in a few words what he expects from players, and the players also understand their roles.”

Sir. Donald Bradman: Another Contender for Godfather

It is difficult to identify a single “Godfather” of cricket history because of the history of the game’s long history and the contributions of many notable players from several eras. But Sir Donald Bradman is one name that unquestionably sticks out for having played a significant part in creating contemporary cricket.

Australian-born Sir Donald Bradman, also known as “The Don,” is considered by many to be the best batsman in cricket history. He became a legendary figure because of his statistical prowess and raw supremacy in a time of harsh conditions and little protective gear.

With 52 Tests under his belt, Bradman’s Test batting average of 99.94 is still unsurpassed by any other player in the history of the game. Despite the absence of contemporary conveniences and technologies, his ability to routinely achieve high points against strong opponents is indicative of his extraordinary skill, focus, and tenacity.
