Earlier, an unmarried couple was allowed to stay in the same room in Oyo hotels. Now, they are not going to be. In short, a couple could book a room at any Oyo hotel by submitting proof of marriage or relationship.
OYO has made its policy on updating its guidelines pretty clear: every couple that makes online bookings has to present proof of their relationship when checking into a hotel. The report adds that the company would expand it from Meerut based on feedback and its efficiency in other cities.
As reported, locals and social organizations approached the company in Meerut and a few other cities and requested them not to allow hotel rooms to unmarried couples. The company has made this big change in its guidelines after seeking feedback in this regard. The information on the Oyo website says that the company’s business is in India and abroad. It offers hotel and homestay services in more than 30 countries and has over 1.5 lakh hotels in its network.
