First Phase of Noida International Airport Launched with Focus on Connectivity and Employment
PM Modi Inaugurates First Phase of Noida International Airport: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport at Jewar, marking a significant milestone in India’s aviation sector. The event, held in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and several other prominent leaders, unveiled the cargo hub and passenger terminal developed with an investment of ₹11,200 crore.
The Noida International Airport is set to revolutionize connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR), complementing the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Initially designed to handle 12 million passengers per year, its capacity can later expand to 70 million. The airport will also serve as a critical freight hub with a cargo handling capacity of 250,000 metric tons annually, potentially increasing to 1.8 million metric tons.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized the airport’s potential to bring economic growth and opportunities, particularly for the farmers, small industries, and youth in western Uttar Pradesh. He praised the project as a symbol of India’s growing infrastructure and its capacity to meet global challenges, even amidst geopolitical tensions. Modi further highlighted the importance of the “Double Engine” government, which has ensured rapid development in the region, including the creation of dedicated freight corridors.
PM Modi also laid the foundation for an MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility at Jewar, which will cater to both domestic and international aircraft, reducing the country’s dependency on foreign services and providing more job opportunities for the youth.
The Noida International Airport is part of India’s broader efforts to develop a robust aviation sector, with plans to construct 100 new airports and 200 helipads under the expanded UDAN scheme. This is expected to create new opportunities for employment and economic growth across the country.
