Bhitarkanika National Park Reopens Today: Bhitarkanika National Park has been reopened for tourists from Saturday after 3 months closure. The park remained closed from May 1 to July 31 to facilitate the crocodiles’ breeding season.
During this period, entry of tourists to Bhitarkanika National Park is strictly prohibited to ensure undisturbed nesting and breeding of saltwater crocodiles. During these months, female saltwater crocodiles turn aggressive while guarding their nests along the creeks and riverbanks. To avoid any untoward incidents and to protect both wildlife and visitors, the forest department restricts entry into the park during this period. A valid identity proof is mandatory for all tourists entering the park.
As part of the green protocol, visitors have been directed not to carry polythene bags, single-use plastic items or plastic bottles into the protected area. Littering has been strictly prohibited, and forest officials said the eco-friendly guidelines would be rigorously enforced to protect the fragile mangrove ecosystem.
