Mark Zuckerberg faces 3-day ultimatum to apologize: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been given a 3 day ultimatum by the Parliamentary Committee of Communications and Information Technology on Wednesday. Zuckerberg has been asked to apologize for the brief removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s July 23 video and take necessary action against those responsible.
The committee, headed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, said the removal of PM Modi’s video is an “attack on democracy”. Modi represents 1.4 billion Indians, he added. The committee said, ‘If Facebook does not take action against those responsible in this matter, the ‘safe harbor clause’ will be removed. Mark Zuckerberg must apologize. Otherwise, a case may be filed.’
The removal of the ‘safe harbor clause’ will pave the way for direct FIRs to be lodged against the authorities of social media platforms. The committee warned that the central government would give approval for this.
The facebook version of the post which was briefly restricted by Meta contained virtual message of Modi to Gen Z. PM’s selfie styled video promised stringent action against paper leaks amid student protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party.
