Bus falls into 100-feet gorge in Chamba; 8 died, 11 seriously injured: At least eight people died, and several others sustained serious injuries after a private bus plunged into a deep gorge in Chamba district on Saturday. All the injured are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
According to the preliminary information, the horrific mishap occurred on the Bairagarh-Chamba road at Chaluj Bend in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district. A private bus carrying around 22 passengers lost control and plunged into a 100-feet-deep gorge. The incident took place around 7: 15 am on Saturday. The authorities reacted swiftly as soon as they learnt about the mishap. The rescue teams were despatched to the spot. With the help of locals, 11 injured persons were rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital for primary treatment. Later, all the injured were referred to Pandit Jawahar Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care.
Relief and rescue operations are underway at the spot under war footing. It is suspected that some more passengers may also be buried under the debris of the bus. The administration has said that additional details regarding the accident, the victims, and the circumstances leading to the crash will be shared as they become available.
