The impact of the bandh is likely to be felt mainly in Bengaluru and Cauvery basin areas. However, the administration and the police have clarified that the daily life of common people will not come to a complete halt. The organizations say that this protest is necessary against increasing pressure on Karnataka over water sharing.
Amid the state-wide Karnataka bandh called today, the Mandya district administration has imposed strict restrictions on the sale of liquor and increased security at key places. All liquor shops, bars and restaurants have been directed to remain close in Srirangapatnam, Maddur and Mandya taluks.
All essential and public services will run normally. These include hospitals, pharmacies, schools-colleges, government offices, BMTC, KSRTC, Namma Metro, auto-taxi-cabs, private and school buses, airport taxi services, hotels, bakeries, markets, APMC yards, roadside vendors and IT, BT and other industrial-commercial establishments. Many private and IT companies have asked employees to work from home.
