7,750 Auto Drivers Fail Marathi Test in Maharashtra
Marathi Test Deadline Ends, 7,750 Drivers Fail: The deadline for auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers in Maharashtra to learn Marathi ended on August 15. According to government data, 7,750 drivers failed the Marathi proficiency test and will have to take it again.
Around 17,427 drivers are still waiting to complete their Marathi training. Mumbai has the highest number of pending cases at 9,196, followed by Thane with 4,871.
The program received around 1.70 lakh applications. So far, 1,40,423 drivers have passed the Marathi test.
Officials said drivers who failed will receive additional training before retaking the exam. The remaining training is expected to be completed within the next one to two weeks.
The Marathi training program was introduced by the Maharashtra government to make basic knowledge of the local language mandatory for auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers.
