Nepal Floods: Death toll climbs to 620, 153 Indian nationals reach Nepal safely: Massive flash floods in Nepal has left behind a staggering scale of destruction. The death toll has reached around 620, while over 2000 people are missing. Relief and rescue operation are underway on a war footing.
The flash floods struck Nepal-Tibet border earlier this week has swept away cities, buildings, infrastructure, vehicles and everything in its path. Search and rescue operations continued for the 3rd day amid fears of fresh floods following an increase in the water level in the Bhotekoshi river. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Friday said around 400 Indians who were stranded on the Chinese side of the China-Nepal border are safe. They are pilgrims of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The MEA said 153 Indian nationals stranded on the Chinese side have safely crossed over to Nepal, while 320 Indian nationals in Nepal are still uncontacted. In a related development, external affairs minister S. Jaishankar held ahigh level meeting with senior officials to review the situation in Nepal.
A total of around 15, 431 security personnel including Nepal Army(6,755), Nepal Police(4, 473), Armed Police Force Nepal(4, 203) are actively conducting search and rescue operations including Rasuwa and Bhite Koshi-Trishuli corridor.
