NLU Odisha Celebrates 13th Convocation as 246 Students Graduate
NLU Odisha Holds 13th Annual Convocation, 246 Students Receive Degrees: Cuttack, September 12, 2026: National Law University Odisha (NLUO) held its Thirteenth Annual Convocation-2026 at the University Amphitheatre, marking an important milestone for 246 graduating students.
The ceremony was attended by several distinguished members of the judiciary, legal and academic fraternity, including Hon’ble Mr Justice Dipankar Datta, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Visitor, NLUO; Hon’ble Mr Justice Sheel Nagu, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Member of the General Council, NLUO; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Harish Tandon, Chief Justice, High Court of Orissa and Chancellor, NLUO; and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay V. Gangapurwala, Former Chief Justice, Madras High Court.
The event was also attended by Hon’ble Dr. Justice Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi, Hon’ble Miss Justice Savitri Ratho, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mruganka Sekhar Sahoo, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Radha Krishna Pattanaik, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sashikanta Mishra, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Aditya Kumar Mohapatra, Hon’ble Mr. Justice V. Narasingh, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Biraja Prasanna Satapathy, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Murahari Sri Raman, Hon’ble Shri Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Gourishankar Satapathy, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Chittaranjan Dash and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sibo Sankar Mishra, Judges of the High Court of Orissa.
Among the other dignitaries present were Sri Pitambar Acharya, Advocate General of Odisha; Shri Sitanshu Mohan Dwibedy, Chairman, Odisha State Bar Council; Prof. (Dr.) Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice-Chancellor, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad; Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao, Vice-Chancellor, IIULER, Goa and Chief Guest; Prof. (Dr.) C.S. Patil, Director, Karnataka Institute for Law and Parliamentary Reform; Prof. (Dr.) K. Vidyullatha Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, NLUO; and Prof. (Dr.) Rangin Pallav Tripathy, Registrar, NLUO.
The convocation was led by Prof. (Dr.) K. Vidyullatha Reddy, who presented the University’s Annual Report. In her address, she highlighted NLUO’s academic achievements and institutional growth. She urged the graduates to uphold justice, constitutional values, integrity, empathy and compassion, and use their legal education for the larger good of society.
The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao, spoke about the importance of pro bono lawyering and technology with a human face. He encouraged the graduates to pursue their careers with passion, dedication and curiosity while remaining committed to society.
He stressed that technology should remain humane and serve people rather than create distance between professionals and society. Quoting Jesse Jackson, he encouraged the graduates to help others, work together and treat people with compassion. He also highlighted humility, service and empathy as important qualities for a meaningful life.
Hon’ble Mr Justice Harish Tandon, Chancellor, conferred the degrees and urged the graduates to become not only successful professionals but also good human beings, guided by gratitude, compassion and service.
Hon’ble Mr Justice Dipankar Datta, Visitor, advised the graduates to engage responsibly with emerging technologies while maintaining discipline, ethical conduct and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Hon’ble Mr Justice Sheel Nagu encouraged the students to persevere and uphold the values of knowledge, patience, compassion and justice.
A total of 246 degrees were conferred during the ceremony, including 6 PhD, 48 LL.M. s, and 192 undergraduate degrees. The undergraduate degrees comprised 100 B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), 42 B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), 37 three-year LL.B. and 13 B.A. (Law) (Hons.).
The convocation also marked the graduation of the first batch of NLUO’s three-year LL.B. programme. The University awarded 23 Gold Medals, including the newly instituted Shri Pitambar Acharya Gold Medal Award for Jurisprudence and the Dr Ananya Chakraborty Memorial Gold Medal for the highest-scoring girl student in the three-year LL.B. programme.
The inaugural edition of the NLUO Mediation Blogs was also formally released during the event. The Thirteenth Annual Convocation celebrated the achievements of NLUO’s graduating students and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to excellence in legal education, scholarship, professional development and service to society.
