Chilika Ferry Service Suspended as Heavy Rain Threat Grows
Heavy Rain Alert: Chilika Ferry Service Suspended Over Strong Winds: Heavy rain is once again threatening Odisha as a depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Weather conditions have also worsened in the Chilika region, with strong winds reported in Krishnaprasad block. Due to the rough weather, the Chilika Development Authority has suspended the passenger ferry service between Satapada and Jahnikuda to ensure passenger safety.
The ferry is an important transport link for people in Krishnaprasad block. The suspension has caused concern among residents, especially after recent heavy rains caused flooding in schools, temples and farmland.
According to the IMD, Odisha may receive very heavy rain on September 22 and extremely heavy rain on September 23 and 24. The depression is expected to cross the coast between North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha between the night of September 23 and the morning of September 24.
The pontoon bridge service in Chilika will resume only after authorities assess the wind and water conditions.
