India Women Win Asian Games Gold, Thrash Sri Lanka by 147 Runs: The Indian women’s cricket team won the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final at Korogi Sports Park in Nishin. Sri Lanka won silver, while Pakistan took bronze after beating Bangladesh.
Batting first, India scored 216/3 in 20 overs, setting Sri Lanka a target of 217 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 69 runs in 15.4 overs.
Smriti Mandhana led India’s batting with a brilliant 79 off 45 balls, including five fours and seven sixes. Shafali Verma scored 48 runs, while Richa Ghosh smashed an unbeaten 49 off 22 balls. India’s total of 216/3 was the highest-ever score in Women’s Asian Games cricket.
Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 29 runs, but the rest of the batting line-up struggled. Deepti Sharma took three wickets, while Sri Charani and Shreyanka Patil picked up two wickets each. The 147-run win is also India Women’s biggest victory by runs in T20 internationals.
