A tiger cub rescued from a village near Similipal: A seven- to eight-month-old tiger cub was rescued from Khaparkhai village near Mayurbhanj’s Similipal Sanctuary. The cub will be shifted to a larger enclosure inside the core area of the sanctuary after receiving veterinary care, forest officials said on Friday.
According to a press note issued by the Similipal Tiger Reserve authorities, the cub first entered a cattle shed at Khaparkhai village under Thakurmunda Range of Karanjia Forest Division on Thursday night (September 24). The cub subsequently remained inside an unoccupied house until Friday morning. Forest officials determined that the cub required veterinary care. The the cub was subsequently rescued and placed in a cage at noon on Friday. The cub will be kept under observation after receiving veterinary care, the release said.
After recovering and attaining the required level of fitness, the tiger cub will be shifted to a larger enclosure at Jamuna, located inside the core area of Similipal. It will eventually be released into the wild once it becomes capable of hunting and surviving independently, the release said.
