Odisha Bandh: Private bus services to operate normally: Private bus services in Odisha will operate as usual on Thursday despite the 12-hour bandh called by the Congress-led INDIA bloc, the Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association said on Wednesday. While, auto rickshaw services will remain completely shut down.
Association president Priyabrata Tripathy said no decision had been taken to suspend bus operations in support of the bandh. ‘Nobody has approached the bus owners or contacted the association seeking our support for the shutdown of private bus services,’ Tripathy said. The position could change if any fresh decision taken, he added.
The INDIA bloc has called the Odisha bandh over three key demands:
1. Immediate withdrawal of the MMDR Amendment Act, 2026.
2. Resignation of Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond over errors in school textbooks.
3. Resignation and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

The bandh could lead to road blockades at several locations by workers and members of the Congress and its allies, affecting traffic movement. Commuters in major cities and towns may face delays, while most shops and commercial establishments could remain closed, with essential services exempted. The impact is likely to vary across different areas.
