Shubhman, Shafali won the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month award: India men’s team captain Shubman Gill and women’s team opener Shafali Verma have won the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for September 2026. Indian captain Shubman Gill, who led the ODI series against the West Indies, was named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for a record fifth time on Tuesday, while the honor went to opener Shafali Verma in the women’s category for her outstanding performance in the Asia Cup and Asian Games.

Gill has equaled West Indies women’s cricket team captain Hayley Matthews, who has been the ICC Player of the Month five times. The 27-year-old was previously honoured for the months of January and September in 2023, and February and July in 2025.

‘It feels fantastic to win my fifth ICC Player of the Month award, and I am grateful to the panel for this honour,’ said India’s Test and ODI captain Gill. He scored 110 in the first ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram before hitting 223 off 133 balls in the next match. His double-century helped India chase down 406 with eight wickets in hand and 39 balls to spare. The innings was the fastest double-century in ODI history.
