Diwali 2026 box office clash: Ranbir Kapoor-Yash’s Ramayana to compete with ’90s cult classics: Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra’s ‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, is among the most anticipated films of the year. With excitement building ahead of its release, several ’90s cult films are reportedly planning a comeback.

Clashes between theatrical releases have become increasingly common, with multiple films often competing for audience attention. The audience may also get the chance to revisit some popular films from the 1990s. Speculations are rising that makers are planning to re- release ‘Gupt’, ‘Tridev’, ‘Yudh’ and ‘Vidhata’ for Diwali. However, no official statement or announcement has been made regarding this.

According to Sacnilk repot, ‘Ramayana’ has already collected ₹119.6 million in pre-sales, with ₹97.3 million in unblocked seats. 21.8 million tickets have been sold. It is believed that the film could become the highest-grossing film in pre-sales for 2026, breaking the record held by ‘Dhurandar 2.’ The first instalment of Ramayana is scheduled to hit theatres on 5 November.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Mohra, starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon, is scheduled for a re-release on November 6, coinciding with the Diwali period. Its return could put the 1994 action thriller in direct competition with Ramayana.

The film enjoyed considerable box office success during its original run. According to Sacnilk, Mohra was made on a budget of Rs 3.25 crore and earned Rs 22.65 crore worldwide, including Rs 12.02 crore in domestic net collections. Based on these figures, its reported box office profit was approximately 596.92%. Its performance during the proposed re-release remains to be seen.

With Ramayana leading the new-release lineup and several ’90s favourites potentially returning to cinemas, Diwali 2026 could deliver an interesting box office contest.
