During his studies, Modi joined the student organization Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and also participated in the anti-corruption Nav Nirman movement.

Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat for 14 years

Narendra Modi became the chief minister of Gujarat on 7 October 2001. Then He remained in the CM post for 14 consecutive years. During this time he included Gujarat among the top states of the country. Even today Modi’s Gujarat model is discussed. Modi remained the Chief Minister of Gujarat till 22 May 2014.

After joining the BJP, Narendra Modi worked on many posts. In 1988-89, he was made the general secretary of the Gujarat unit of the BJP. When former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani did the Somnath-Ayodhya Rath Yatra, Narendra Modi played an important role at that time. From that time onwards, Modi started being recognized among the big leaders.

However, the year 2001 was a turning point for Modi. That year, a devastating earthquake struck Gujarat, in which more than 20 thousand people died. Due to political pressure, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Keshubhai Patel, had to resign, and in his place, Narendra Modi was made the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the first time. Modi was probably waiting for this; after that, he never looked back. By the year 2012, Narendra Modi’s stature grew so much that the party started seeing him as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister.

Narendra Modi, who gained fame by making Gujarat one of the top states, was made the prime ministerial candidate by the BJP. Under his leadership, the BJP registered a landslide victory and formed a majority government at the centre. In 2014, Narendra Modi became the 14th Prime Minister of the country.
