Good News for Delhi-NCR: Green Firecrackers Allowed on November 7 and 8
Green Firecrackers in Delhi-NCR, Supreme Court Allows; Know the Details: People in Delhi-NCR will be allowed to burst green firecrackers this Diwali. The Supreme Court has granted temporary permission, similar to last year. The Court said that instead of a complete ban, strict rules on the sale and use of green firecrackers would be more effective in controlling pollution.
A bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and Prasanna B. Varale has allowed firecrackers on November 7 and 8 during two time slots:
- Morning: 6 AM to 7 AM
- Evening: 8 PM to 10 PM
However, bursting firecrackers within 300 metres of hospitals, schools, nursing homes, old-age homes and silence zones will remain prohibited. A complete ban on firecracker sales will begin from November 9.
The Supreme Court has allowed the manufacture of green firecrackers only between November 2 and 6. Only manufacturers certified by CSIR-NEERI and PESO can produce them.
Each firecracker box must carry a QR code with product and batch details. Firecracker garlands, crackers containing barium and non-certified products will remain banned. Online sales are also prohibited.
The Court has directed authorities to strictly monitor the sale of illegal firecrackers and review pollution levels. It has also asked officials to collect hospital patient data and submit a report by December 14.
Earlier, the Supreme Court criticised the Delhi government and the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) for failing to properly enforce firecracker restrictions.

The Court observed that a complete ban is not the only solution to festive-season pollution. Instead, strict monitoring and proper enforcement of rules are necessary.
