US strikes Iran’s Qeshm Island: The US has launched secret and limited strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island on Tuesday. This incident occurred at a time when US President Donald Trump had hinted that a possible deal with Tehran could be reached.
Iranian state media on Tuesday said at least five explosions occurred on Qeshm Island near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. In addition, explosions were also heard in the nearby port city of Bandar Lengeh. The attacks had been deliberately kept secret and conducted on a smaller scale to avoid signaling an intention to resume its border military campaign against Iran.
This development comes just a day before the important mid-term elections in the US. Tensions remain high, but despite this, there are no signs of a major diplomatic breakthrough on the part of either Washington or Tehran.
