A physical barrier is easily broken by strength and resolution. Dufton recently conquered the extremely tough El Matador peak in Wyoming, often termed Devil’s Tower. As Dufton ascended this 500-foot mountain, small rocks fell on him. His wife and fellow mountaineer, Molly Dufton, was guiding him from the bottom. Dufton would climb by grabbing onto small ledges and placing his feet on the joints of the mountain.

Dufton has been climbing since he was two years old. His vision had reduced to 20% at the age of 11. He is losing his vision gradually. He can see light only, despite his age being 39 years. He climbed the Old Man of Hoy in the Orkney Islands of Scotland. He is the first blind person to climb a 300-foot mountain via many routes in Morocco’s Lower Atlas Mountains. Instead of giving up, Dufton continues to climb steep summits, often jeering at his fate. “I don’t want my disease to dictate my life choices,” says the doctor. Dufton and Molly met at university 20 years ago. They’ve been climbing together ever since.
