Cancer patients claim highest health insurance premiums: Report; People are now becoming aware of the dangerous and deadly cancer. Last year, in 2024, cancer patients claimed the highest number of health insurance policies. And in this number, cancer patients have come to the top. The number of cancer patients claiming after hospitalization has increased by 12%.
Following this, the highest number of people claiming health insurance are those suffering from heart disease. The medical costs of these patients have also risen. Insurance companies have recorded claims data of people for five different diseases. Among them, claims due to respiratory disease have registered the maximum growth.
MediaSist Healthcare Services, a company acting as a third party for health insurance companies, collected the data. The company processes claims for most hospital admissions in the country. The analysis by the company shows that after the age of 40, the number of insured people and the rate of cancer claims increase.
Women are 1.2 to 1.5 times more likely to develop cancer as compared to men according to Dhruv Rastogi, Head of Data Science at MediaAssist Healthcare Services. Male heart attack rates are 1.3 to 1.5 times higher than in females. Experts have advised everyone to change their diet and lifestyle.
The survey states that the most number of cataract surgeries has been done on senior individuals, who are above 60 years of age. High inflation in the treatment of respiratory ailments is due to pollution and the long-term effects of Corona. Covid-19 has heightened the consciousness of people, feels the expert. However, as people ignore their health, diseases such as stress, diabetes, hypertension, and heart are becoming more common. Such vigilance should be maintained, they added.
