Delhi Court Sends Tahawwur Rana To 18-Day NIA Custody: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) produced Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who is accused of conspiring in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, in Patiala House Court on Thursday night (10th April) under heavy security. He was produced at the court in a special bulletproof vehicle.
NIA secured 18 days’ remand:
NIA had requested 20 days’ remand from the court, but the court granted 18 days’ remand. They wish to elicit information from Rana regarding all matters related to the Indian terrorist network and the conspiracy of the 26/11 attack.
Stringent security arrangements were in place outside the Patiala House Court complex. NIA officials produced Tahawwur Rana before the court in proper preparation and requested his remand before the court. While delivering its judgment on the remand, the court granted 18 days of remand custody.
was arrested at the airport:
Earlier on Thursday, late at night, Tahawwur Hussain Rana was formally arrested by the NIA. Rana was arrested by the NIA at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
Rana Brought to India after extradition from America:
Remarkably, Tahawwur Rana has been brought to India after extradition from America. This arrest has become possible after years of diplomatic and legal efforts. All attempts made legally by Tahawwur Rana in America to prevent his extradition, ranging from an emergency appeal to the US Supreme Court, went in vain. Thereafter, he was extradited to India from Los Angeles on a special plane. It was a senior team of NIA and NSG officials that saw through bringing Rana to India from America. On alighting from the plane, Rana was arrested after fulfilling all legal formalities.
26/11 attack accused Tahawwur Rana:
Tahawwur Rana has been charged with conspiring in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, and David Coleman Headley alias Dawood Gilani, other Pakistani co-conspirators of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami. Over 160 innocent civilians died and nearly 240 individuals got injured in this gruesome terror strike. The Government of India has proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami as terrorist groups under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).
