Filmmaker Shyam Benegal is no more .The country’s well-known filmmaker Shyam Benegal died on Monday. He was 90 years old. Benegal’s daughter Pia gave this information. Benegal is credited with starting parallel cinema in Indian cinema through films like ‘Ankur’, ‘Nishant’ and ‘Manthan’ in the 1970s and 1980s.
Pia Benegal told that her father had a serious kidney disease due to which he died at 6:38 pm in Mumbai’s Wockhardt Hospital. Wockhardt Hospital sources said that Benegal was admitted in the ICU. In his illustrious career, Benegal made films, documentaries and television serials on various issues, including Bharat Ek Khoj and Samvidhaan. He celebrated his 90th birthday on 14 December. On the occasion of his birthday, Benegal had told that he often has to go to the hospital for dialysis. Benegal’s family includes his wife Neera Benegal and daughter. Bhumika, Junoon, Mandi, Suraj Ka Satvaan Ghoda, Mammo and Sardari Begum are counted among his artistic films in Hindi cinema.
