Hallmarking will soon be mandatory on silver jewellery like gold. Hallmarking will be made compulsory on silver jewelry like gold. Hallmarking will soon be made compulsory on silver jewelry like gold in the country. Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs Pradhan Joshi has given information in this regard.
Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pradhan Joshi, while participating in the 79th Foundation Day celebrations of the Bureau of Indian Standards, said: “Keeping in view the demand of BS consumers, hallmarking should be made mandatory for silver and silver jewelry. There is a consumer demand for the hallmarking of silver. Work in this direction has already started.”
He stated that the government would decide on it after completing a discussion with stakeholders and conducting feasibility by BIS. He asked BIS to conduct the feasibility study and collect feedback from the consumers as well as jewelry dealers.
