Story of Hanumanji’s birth

According to one story, the Apsara Punjikasthali of Devraj Indra’s court is Hanumanji’s mother. Once everyone was present in Devraj Indra’s court, where Rishi Durvasa was also present and apsara Punjikasthali was repeatedly coming and going in and out of the court. Rishi Durvasa got angry with this act of hers, and he cursed her to become a monkey. apsara Punjikasthali repeatedly asked for forgiveness, but Rishi Durvasa gave her a boon that she can assume any form according to her wish. Later she was born as a monkey from the womb of the wife of the monkey king Viraj and was named Anjani. When Anjani became of marriageable age, she was married to Kesari. Hanumanji’s father also got a son like Hanumanji due to a boon. It is said that once when Vanar Raj Kesari reached near Prabhas Tirtha, many sages were engrossed in their yoga practice. But at the same time, a huge elephant started killing those sages. When that elephant pounced on sage Bharadwaj, Kesari pulled out both the teeth of that big elephant and killed it. Pleased with this, the sages blessed the Vanar Raj that he would get a son who would be able to take any form he wanted and would be as powerful and strong as the wind. It is said that after this boon, Lord Rudra himself took birth as Vanar Raj Kesari, i.e. Hanuman ji.
Why do we celebrate Hanumanji’s birthday twice?
Hanumanji was born on the full moon day of Chaitra month, so on this day his birthday is celebrated because he was born on earth, but apart from that, Hanuman Jayanti is also celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. This second Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated as Vijay Diwas. Actually, according to a story, when Hanumanji was a child, he swallowed the Sun God thinking it to be a fruit. Indradev was enraged by this act of Hanumanji, and to punish Hanumanji, he attacked him with a thunderbolt. Hanuman got hurt in his beard due to the attack of the thunderbolt, and he became unconscious. When Pawandev came to know about this, he got angry and stopped the life air of the entire universe, due to which there was chaos in the entire creation. Then Brahmaji gave life to Hanumanji. Since this day was the full moon day of Chaitra month, on which Hanumanji got new life. For this reason, every year the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month is celebrated as Hanuman Janmotsav, which is his second birthday.
