HMPV enters Assam, 10-month-old baby infected. Panic has been created in China by HMPV, which has entered Assam. A 10-month-old baby from the state has been infected with the virus. This is the first reported HMPV infection in Assam during this season.
A 10-month-old infant at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh is being treated in isolation after testing positive for the virus. The hospital stated that his status is stable.
“The child came to the hospital four days ago with cold-like symptoms. We sent his sample for testing. The ICMR-RMRC in Lahowal has confirmed that the child is infected with HMPV,” said Dr Dhrubajyoti Bhuyan, superintendent of the medical college.
It was a follow-up visit for a routine test. The tests revealed that he was suffering from HMV, the child who was under tests. The child is stable and it is the common virus informed Dr. Bhuyan with no cause of panic.
Senior doctor Biswajit of ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre said, “We have already detected 110 HMPV cases from Dibrugarh in 2014. This is the first incident this season. HMPV is detected every year. There is nothing new in this.

Children under 5 years of age
Adults over 65 years of age
People with weak immune systems
People with heart or lung disease can be affected.
