Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of the season on Saturday (March 22). Just a day before the opening ceremony, shocking news came from Kolkata. The IPL 2025‘s first match cancelled as the weather department has issued an orange alert.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms and rain in West Bengal from Thursday to Sunday. An orange alert has been issued for the first day of the IPL 2025 match, March 22, while a yellow alert has been issued for Sunday.
There is a 74% chance of rain in Kolkata on Saturday, with a 97% chance of cloudy weather. The chance of rain is said to reach 90% in the evening. So, heavy rain is almost certain to occur at Eden Gardens on the first day of the 18th edition of the IPL. So it is difficult to say now whether KKR and RCB will be able to bowl enough overs to get results.
