Justice BR Gavai to Become Next CJI of India ,CJI Sanjib Khanna recommended the appointment
Justice BR Gavai to Become Next CJI of India – Justice B.R. Gavai will be the next CJI of the country. CJI Sanjib Khanna sent a recommendation to the Law Ministry. The term of the current Chief Justice Sanjib Khanna will end on 13 May. Justice Gavai will be the 52nd Chief Justice of the country. He will take oath as the next CJI of the country on 14 May. His term will be 6 months. Justice Gavhai’s name was sent to the Law Ministry by CJI Sanjib Khanna for the next CJI of the Supreme Court. The Law Ministry asked CJI Sanjib Khanna to recommend the name of the next CJI. The decision has been taken on that basis.

I have affixed my seal to Justice Gavai’s name. Sanjiv Khanna was sworn in as the 51st CJI of India on November 11 last year. He was administered the oath by President Draupadi Murmu. He replaces former CJI DY Chandrachud. DY Chandrachud retired on November 10. The new CJI Sanjiv Khanna’s term is six months.

He will remain in the post of CJI till May 13, 2025. Born on November 24, 1960, in Amaravati, Maharashtra, Gavhai is a renowned social activist. He started his judicial career as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court on November 14, 2003. He became a permanent judge on November 12, 2005. He presided over benches in Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Panaji for more than 15 years. Later, he was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India on May 24, 2019. In addition, B.R. Gabhai is the son of the former Governor of Bihar and Kerala, the late R.S. Gabhai.
