President’s Rule

There was also President’s rule in the state. The first non-Congress government came into existence in 1978. Sharad Pawar led the Pulwama government. It was dismissed, and early assembly elections were held. There was President’s rule from 17 February 1980 to 9 June 1980.

Vasantrao Naik holds the record of serving as the Chief Minister for the longest time in Maharashtra. He was the Chief Minister of the state for 11 years and 77 days. He held this post from December 1963 to February 1975. Not only this, Vasantrao Naik was the first Chief Minister of the state who also completed a five-year term. Sharad Pawar has been the youngest Chief Minister of the state. He took over this post at the age of 38. It is another matter that this time the party of Sharad Pawar, who is considered the Chanakya of politics, which joined the Maha Aghadi alliance in the assembly elections, could win only 13 seats. His party candidates contested on 86 seats. Earlier, Sharad Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar broke the party and joined the government with the BJP.
