Uttarakhand is a state located in northern India that was formed on 9 November 2000 after many years of agitation as the twenty-seventh state of the Republic of India. From 2000 to 2006, it was known as Uttaranchal. In January 2007, the official name of the state was changed to Uttarakhand, keeping in mind the sentiments of the local people. The state is known for its natural environment due to the Himalayas, Bhabar, and Terai regions and religious places. Uttarakhand is bordered by Tibet to the north and Nepal to the east. The states bordering it are Himachal Pradesh to the west and Uttar Pradesh to the south. Before its formation in 2000, it was a part of Uttar Pradesh. The first Chief Minister of Uttarakhand was Nityanand Swami. It was during the administration of Nityanand Swami that the state was named Uttaranchal. Nityanand Swami was born as Nityanand Sharma on 27 December 1927 in Narnaul, Haryana and died in December 2012 due to illness at the Combined Medical Institute, Dehradun. Uttarakhand was formed as the 27th state of India on 9 November 2000, when it was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh.

The current Chief Minister of Uttarakhand is Pushkar Singh Dhami. He is the 12th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Dhami is very popular among the people of Uttarakhand for his work. Pushkar Singh Dhami contested his first assembly election from Khatima seat in 2012 and won and reached the assembly.
