Tokyo Olympic Medalist Elected Chairperson Of Indian Weightlifting Federation’s Athletes Commission
Mirabai Chanu Elected Chairperson Of IWF: Tokyo Olympics medallist Mirabai Chanu has been given a big responsibility. Mira has been appointed the president of the Weightlifting Federation of India. Mirabai said that, along with taking on the responsibility, it is an opportunity to sharpen the voice of weightlifting.
Mira thanked everyone for appointing her as president of the IWF. I am determined to carry out this responsibility. In addition, I plan to sharpen weightlifters’ voices in many forums. I’ll focus on how they approach the sport.”

Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal in the 49kg category at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Mira is the second Indian weightlifter to have won an Olympic medal following Karnam Malleswari. She had aspired to win a medal at the 2023 Asian Games but ended her competition in fourth position because of issues with injury.
Mira has been a recipient of two Commonwealth Games gold medals in 2018 and 2022. She was the champion in the World Championship in 2017. She won the gold in 2022.
