Dhoni on retirement rumours
Before the big match at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, Dhoni told Jio Hotstar that “I can play for as long as I want for CSK. That’s my franchise. Even if I’m in a wheelchair, they’ll drag me,” he said while speaking to JioHotstar.
Dhoni does not contribute much with the bat for CSK but his mere presence makes a lot of difference. In last season, he batted at eight or below and scored 161 runs at a strike rate of 220, hitting a boundary after every 2.7 balls. That’s a role he has assigned to himself along with the wicketkeeping duties.
The IPL 2025 will be Dhoni’s 16th season with the franchise. The 42-year-old, who led CSK to five IPL titles, stepped down as captain ahead of the 2024 season but continues to be a key presence in the squad. also know ipl 2025 match list , venue, time, full details .
Despite heavy speculations about his retirement from the past few seasons, Dhoni has remained non-committal on his decision to call time on his long and stellar career.
After guiding CSK to another IPL title in 2023, Dhoni underwent knee surgery but returned for the 2024 season, playing a finisher’s role. CSK couldn’t make it to the playoffs last season under new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad who will be leading the side this season as well.
Preferring No. 8 or below in the line-up, Dhoni smashed 161 runs in 73 balls in IPL 2024 at a strike rate of 220. He was retained as an uncapped player at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
