The Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) has accused Netflix of not providing sufficient information about how the company used the personal data of its customers between 2018 and 2020. Therefore, the authority has imposed a fine of approximately Rs 41.8 crore (€4.75 million) on Netflix.
The DPA investigation, which began in 2019, found that Netflix failed to clearly explain its data practices in its privacy statement. Specifically, the company didn’t provide adequate information to users about how their personal data was being used.
This fine serves as a reminder to companies to prioritize transparency when handling customer data. As per GDPR guidelines, companies must clearly communicate how they collect, use, and protect user data .
