‘No Fuel To 15-Year-Old Vehicles’ After March 31: The government has made a major decision to regulate air pollution. The newly elected BJP government in Delhi has made a major decision to regulate pollution from vehicles. If one owns a vehicle that is 15 years old, then they will not be permitted to get oil filled at petrol pumps after March 31. That is, no one will be permitted to get oil filled in old vehicles from April 1 onwards.

A crucial meeting was conducted in Delhi today to manage air pollution. Following the meeting, Delhi’s Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, stated that the government is going to implement some measures to curb vehicle pollution. Different devices will be fitted at petrol pumps to detect vehicles that are 15 years old. Vehicles older than 15 years will not be able to receive oil. The Union Petroleum Ministry will also be notified about this.

The government will create a special tax team to implement this rule. They will spot vehicles flouting the rule. The new rule will be enforced from April 1. Heavy vehicles also coming into Delhi will be screened. Vehicles flouting environmental regulations will not be permitted to enter Delhi, said Sirsa.

Delhi and NCR already banned 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles. The regulation will take effect from January 1, 2022, and the vehicles of violators will be seized and taken to scrap yards.

In addition to petrol pump restrictions, anti-smog guns will also be compulsory in large buildings, hotels, and business centers in Delhi to curb pollution levels. Sirsa stated, “There are numerous large hotels, large offices, Delhi Airport, and large construction firms here. We will make it compulsory to have anti-smog guns installed there. Smog guns will also be fitted in large residential complexes.”

He informed that by December 2025, 90% of the CNG buses operating in Delhi would be taken off the roads. Rather, electric buses would be put into service for the people, Sirsa added.
