6 years of age is mandatory for enrollment class one student
Odisha govt fixes Class 1 enrolment age in schools at 6-plus years from 2025-26 academic session . National Education Policy-2020 has been implemented at the school level. The Department of Public Education has issued a notification to implement this ‘National Education Policy’ from 2024-25. Along with this, the Department of Public Education has given a big information about the enrollment in the first class by tweeting. The Department of Public Education has informed in a tweet that after discussions with various educationists and experts, for the excellent educational development of students, the National Education Policy-2020 has been fixed as 6 (six) years or above for enrollment in the first class.
Class 1 enrolment age
In our state, it has been decided to implement the National Education Policy-2020 from the academic year 2025-26 and the age limit for admission to class I has been fixed at 6 (six) years or above. Moreover, for the convenience of the students, the deadline for attaining the age of 6 (six) years has been fixed till 1st September instead of 31st March.
Meanwhile, educationists have said that the parents have misunderstood the government’s rules. The National Education Policy states that children must be 6 years old by September 1. This means that children who are about to complete 6 years by September 1 can enroll in class 1 from the academic year starting in April.
In short, the mandatory age limit of 6 years from the current academic year has created confusion and dissatisfaction among the parents. Therefore, they have demanded that this age limit be relaxed for the children currently studying in LKG and UKG. Otherwise, they will have to wait another year to enroll in class 1.
