So he called his colleagues and friends and held a meeting in which director Fred Niblo, film producer Fred Beatson, and actor Conrad Nagel participated. They are said to have liked the idea. Later, 36 of the best personalities of Hollywood were invited to a hotel. Taking this idea forward, the name ‘Academy Awards’ was proposed, which was liked by everyone.
In March 1927, Hollywood actor-producer Douglas Fairbanks was appointed president of the Academy Awards. After this, the idea of what to present to the recipient of the honor was discussed. After much debate, it was decided that a trophy would be given, which would have to be designed differently. A design was finalized in which a warrior would stand with a sword in his hand. The task of creating the statue was given to Cedric Gibbons, art director of MGM Studios.

The Oscar trophy is 13 inches tall and weighs 8.85 kilograms. It is made of 92.5 percent tin, 7.5 percent copper, and is finally plated with gold. It costs $400, or about 33,077 rupees, to make one Oscar trophy.
When did the first Oscar Awards start?
The first Academy Awards were held on May 16, 1929. About 270 Hollywood celebrities participated in it. All these celebrities were invited to the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The first Oscar event was held here, in which there was no audience, and the program ended in just 15 minutes. This event was paid for, in which a ticket was sold for $5.
A dog was a contender for the Oscar
According to reports, the first Oscar was won by German actor Emil Jannings. But he is not considered the first contender for the award. The award went to a German Shepherd named Tin Tin. The dog was rescued from France during World War II. The dog later starred in 27 Hollywood films, four of which were released in 1929.
The dog performed so well in both films that the awards committee considered him worthy of the first Oscar, but the first president of the Academy Awards, Fairbanks, thought that giving the first prize to a dog would send the wrong message to society. So the committee voted between the dog and German actor Emil Jannings, who received the most votes and became the first Oscar winner.
