Railways has so far won 183 Arjuna, 28 Padma Shri, 12 Dhyan Chand and 9 Khel Ratna awards. These achievements are commendable at the national and international level.
Indian Railways is playing an important role in encouraging sports. At present, more than 9000 players are working in various sports in the Railways, out of which about 3000 are active players. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India has announced the National Sports Awards 2024 on Thursday. At the same time, 32 players have been given the Arjuna Award, out of which 5 players work in the Railways.
Five players of Railways will be awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in the National Sports Awards of the year 2024. This honor will be given during a special ceremony organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 17 January 2025. Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) has been active in promoting sports in the country since the year 1928.
These players will get Arjun Award
Initially promoting hockey, athletics and tennis, the board now governs 29 sports, including 18 singles and 11 team sports. The list of railway players who received the Arjuna Award this year includes Jyoti Yaraji (South Central Railway, athletics-100m hurdles), Annu Rani (North Eastern Railway, athletics-javelin throw), Salima Tete (South Eastern Railway, hockey), Swapnil Suresh Kusale (Central Railway, shooting-50m 3P) and Aman (Northern Railway, wrestling-57kg freestyle).
183 Arjuna Awards have been received so far
The achievements of these railway players have been excellent not only at the national but also at the international level. By giving jobs to the players, the railway has not only secured their future but has also given them an opportunity to hone their talent. So far, railway players have received 183 Arjuna Awards, 28 Padma Shri, 12 Dhyan Chand Awards, 13 Dronacharya Awards and 9 Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awards. This number is the highest number of honors received by any single organization.
Navdeep is also included in para athletes
The players who received the Khel Ratna include shooter Manu Bhaker, chess grandmaster D. Gukesh, hockey player Harmanpreet Singh, also known as ‘Sarpanch Sahab’, and para athlete Praveen Kumar. These players have been honored for taking sports to new heights in the country. This time, Navdeep is also among the para athletes who received the Arjuna Award, who was also in the news for his brilliant performance and impressive throw in the Paralympics.
