After retiring from international cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin was warmly welcomed at his home in Chennai. To commemorate the legendary career of the former India spinner, supporters, relatives, and well-wishers came together. Fans shouted, showered him with flowers, and rejoiced with the sound of drums resonating outside his house as his father gave him a loving embrace and a kiss.
Ashwin announced his retirement during the post-match press conference following India’s hard-fought draw against Australia in Brisbane. Returning home on December 19, the veteran reflected on his career and decision. Speaking to reporters, Ashwin revealed he plans to continue his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for as long as he feels capable.
Many people find it emotionally charged. Perhaps it will sink in; it will be emotional. However, it’s a huge sense of relaxation and fulfillment for me,” Ashwin said to reporters outside his home. “Don’t be shocked if I try to play for CSK for as long as I can; I’m going to play for them. I believe that Indian cricketer Ashwin has likely called it quits, but I don’t think he’s finished. “That’s it,” he said.
During the IPL 2025 mega auction, CSK brought back Ashwin for a whopping amount of Rs 9.25 crore. It is more like a reunion with a franchise that he had played for in eight seasons until 2015. He would be playing with players like MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and coach Stephen Fleming. Ashwin is expected to play a huge role for CSK in IPL 2025.
