under IT guidlines, center block 18 OTT platforms for publishing obscene, vulgar content

The Indian government has issued a forceful statement condemning obscene and vulgar content on OTT platforms. This year, they blocked 18 platforms for breaking IT policies. According to Information and Broadcasting Minister L Murugan, these platforms were broadcasting profane, vulgar, and, in some cases, pornographic information.

Platforms that have been prohibited include Dreams Films, Voovi, Yessma, Uncut Adda, and 14 others. The government took its judgment in accordance with the terms of the Information Technology Act of 2000, and after consulting with other ministries and domain experts.

This action is a component of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s ongoing efforts to control over-the-top (OTT) material. Along with emphasizing the value of self-regulation, the government has been interacting with OTT platforms and their self-regulatory organizations.
