JD Vance will meet Prime Minister Modi on April 21, where economic and geopolitical priorities will be discussed. The ongoing talks on a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) between India and the US will also be important during this time. In February, Modi and US President Donald Trump agreed to complete the first phase of the agreement by the end of 2025, which will achieve the target of $500 billion in trade between the two countries by 2030.

Special visit for Usha Vance

It is going to be a special trip for Usha Vance, who has the privilege of becoming the first Indian-American Hindu Second Lady of the United States. Her parents had migrated to the US from India for work. So this is going to be her first visit to India, where she is going to experience her ancestral village up close. According to reports, she is also going to visit her ancestral village in Andhra Pradesh. From where her parents, Radhakrishna Chilukuri and Lakshmi Chilukuri, have their original residence.

Cultural tours and time with family

A visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra and historical sites in Jaipur is part of the visit. Although it is an official visit, it is going to be a personal experience for both the Bhans couple. The Bhans couple will introduce their children to Indian culture and heritage. Prime Minister Modi will also host a dinner for the Bhans couple in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz is also visiting India from April 21 to 23. He will discuss high-tech and clean energy cooperation under the TRUST initiative with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval. Waltz will also meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and participate in the India-US Forum organised by the Ananta Centre.

Trump’s tariff policy and India-US relations

The visit comes at a time when US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies have led to global economic instability. Trump has suspended tariffs on all countries except China for 90 days, giving India a window of opportunity to negotiate. Indian officials hope to conclude the trade talks within the next six weeks.
