Waqf Amendment Bill will be presented in Lok Sabha today: The Waqf Amendment Bill will be presented in the Lok Sabha today. The bill will be placed in the House at noon after the Question Hour. Speaker Om Birla has set a time of 8 hours for discussion on this. Out of this, NDA has been given 4 hours and 40 minutes, and the rest of the time has been given to the opposition.
Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU) have announced their support to the bill. Both parties have issued whips to all their MPs to be present in the House.
On the other hand, the opposition is against the bill. In this matter, neutral parties like Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK, Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal and K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samiti are also with the opposition. Yesterday, the parties of INDIA block held a meeting in Parliament House and discussed their strategy on the bill.
Apart from this, the opposition has demanded to increase the time of discussion to 12 hours. On this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the time of discussion can be increased. The country also wants to know what is the stand of which party.
When voting happens, the figures are in favour of NDA. The government accepted the suggestions of JDU-TDP. The parties had given 3 suggestions on the bill. The government has accepted them.
The law should not be implemented with a retrospective effect. Old mosques, dargah, or other Muslim religious places will not be tampered with. Land is a state subject. Clear opinion of the states should also be taken on land.
The cabinet approved the bill in FebruaryThe Cabinet approved the Waqf Amendment Bill on February 19. A new draft of the Waqf Bill has been prepared on the basis of the report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the bill. The JPC report on the bill was presented in Parliament on February 13 in the first phase of the budget session.
The committee submitted a 655-page report to Speaker Om Birla on January 30. During this, JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal, Nishikant Dubey and other BJP MPs were present. However, no opposition MP was seen.
Opposition MPs opposed the reportOpposition MPs included in the committee had objected to the report. 16 members voted in favour of the report, while 11 voted against it. The remaining members did not participate in the voting. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had said – It was impossible to read the 655-page report in one night. I have expressed disagreement with the report.
At the same time, JPC member DMK MP A Raja had said that BJP MP Jagadambika Pal conducted the proceedings of the committee on his own. I think the report was also prepared in advance. If this bill is passed, we will go to the Supreme Court against it.
In protest against the bill, people wore black bands and offered Eid namazIn protest against the Waqf Bill, Muslims at many places offered Eid namaz wearing black bands. On the last Friday of Ramzan (Jumatul Vida) on March 28, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had asked Muslims across the country to go to offer namaz wearing black bands.
In the appeal letter issued by AIMPLB, it was written- It is the responsibility of every Muslim of the country to strongly oppose the Waqf Amendment Bill. All Muslims should register peaceful and silent protest by wearing a black band while going to the mosque for Namaaz.
