With the stadium ready, the spectators ready, and the players also super ready, everyone’s tension has increased due to the weather. The weather in Kolkata has been cloudy since the first match of IPL 2025. The match between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is set to be played at KKR’s home ground, Eden Gardens, but the weather in Kolkata is becoming a headache. But there is a possibility of rain in the match, and it may also be canceled.

In such a situation, one question arises: what happens if the match is tied or cancelled? Apart from this, today we will tell you about the important rules of the IPL 2025 playoffs, points system, and league stage. Read the news till the end…
What happens if the match is tied or abandoned? There are 10 teams participating in the 2025 IPL. Each team will be awarded 2 points for a win. However, if the IPL first match is cancelled for any reason and no result is decided, then 1 point will be shared between the two teams. However, if the match is tied, the result will be decided through a super over, and the winning team will get 2 points.
Thus, after 14 matches played in the league stage, the top-4 teams will qualify for the playoffs. Similarly, if two or more teams are tied on points in the points table, the top-4 and playoffs will be decided on the basis of net run rate.
This was about the rules related to the playoffs and the points system. Now let’s know about the rules of the league stage. All the 10 teams participating in IPL 2025 will face all their opponents in the tournament.
But they will play only 5 opponents twice, while they will play the remaining 4 opponents only once. The reason for this is the seeding. In fact, in IPL 2025, the seeding has been done on the basis of winning the IPL and reaching the final.
Accordingly, all the teams have got their places, then they have been divided into two groups of 5 each. In Group A, Chennai Super Kings are in first place, Kolkata Knight Riders are in second, Rajasthan Royals are in third, Royal Challengers Bangalore are in fourth, and Punjab Kings are in fifth.
Similarly, Mumbai Indians are at number 1 in Group B. Sunrisers Hyderabad are at second place, Gujarat Titans are in third place, Delhi Capitals are in fourth place, and Lucknow Supergiants are in fifth place.
In this, each team will play 2 matches each against the 4 teams in its group, with one match being played at home and the other at the opponent’s home. In addition, it will also face a team with the same lineup from another group in one home and one away match.
At the same time, it will play the remaining 4 teams from the other group only once. For example, CSK will play RCB, PBKS, and KKR twice in its group. In the other group, it is at the same level as MI, so it will face them twice. But it will play DC, SRH, GT, and LSG only once.
Playoff Rules: The teams that finish in the top 2 in the league stage will have a big advantage in the playoffs. The first qualifier will be played between them, and the winner will go directly to the final. The third and fourth-placed teams will face each other in the eliminator. The winner of this match will face the loser of the first qualifier. Both will face each other in the second qualifier, and the winner will enter the final.
