What is Earth Hour– Today is Earth Hour. The day to give one hour to our beloved Earth. The whole world will light up on this day. The whole world will give a message of preventing waste of electricity and protecting the environment. Countries from small to big around the world . The call for Earth Hour is to create awareness about climate change and energy conservation.
This Earth Hour will be observed from 8.30 to 9.30 pm. It is celebrated all over the world at this time every year. It is observed by the World Wildlife Fund, or WWF. During this time, people are urged to switch off lights and electrical appliances. Today, this day will be celebrated in about 190 countries of the world. Last year, was celebrated at 150 places: monuments, government buildings, educational institutions, and corporate offices in the country. Last year, WWF-India organized 12 cyclothons across the country, involving 2,000 volunteers.
Where did it start?
It was first celebrated in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Later, it started being celebrated all over the world. Switching off the lights reduces greenhouse gases and stops the use of fossil fuels. This proves to be friendly to the globe.
