What Is The SACHET App ? Know What It Is, Why It Was Launched
What is the SACHET App – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 121st Mann Ki Baat address on Sunday, spoke about the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)-enabled app, a CAP-based integrated warning system. The system is available across India and includes ‘real-time dissemination of early warnings through multiple technologies using geo-intelligence,’ as mentioned on its website.
What is the ‘Sachet App’?
‘Sachet App is an early warning platform built on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) standard issued by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). It enables real-time delivery of alerts and advisories using geo-intelligence and a variety of technologies. The aim of the system is to ensure that information about impending disasters such as floods, cyclones, lightning strikes or epidemics reaches people quickly and efficiently. You also read this Narendra Modi’s journey chaiwala to becoming PM

How does it work?
‘Sachet App uses an integrated platform to send targeted messages to people in local languages via SMS. Over time, it plans to integrate other communication channels such as cell broadcast, radio, TV, sirens, social media, web portals and mobile apps. This multi-platform approach ensures that no one is left behind in an emergency.
Where is it used?
As of now, Sachet is operational in 34 states and union territories. It has already proven its worth: over 750 million SMS alerts have been sent during major events like cyclones Asni, Yas, Nivar and Amphan; floods in Assam and Gujarat; lightning strikes in Bihar; and even during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has also been used to assist pilgrims during the Amarnath Yatra.
Why is this important?
SACHATE is a major step towards fulfilling the Prime Minister’s 10-point agenda for disaster risk reduction. By creating an integrated, technology-driven platform, it helps government agencies better coordinate and inform citizens, ultimately saving lives and reducing damage.
The Union Government is working to expand the reach and capacity of the alert, ensuring smooth dissemination of messages across all types of media. The recent global workshop on the CAP-based Integrated Alert System, jointly organized by C-DOT and NDMA, aims to address implementation challenges and further improve the technology.
Similarly, today, in his 121st Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said that the Pahalgam terror attack has saddened the countrymen. The attack has angered the minds of Indians. The whole world expresses its condolences over such incidents. The Prime Minister said that justice will be done to the families of the victims.
The attackers and those involved in the conspiracy will get strict punishment. Terrorists cannot tolerate the development of Jammu and Kashmir. Unity is our greatest strength, the Prime Minister told the countrymen. He also said that the whole country is united against terrorists. The Prime Minister, who expressed the support of the whole world against terrorism, said this in his Mann Ki Baat program today.
When peace was returning to Kashmir, the enemies of the country and Jammu and Kashmir did not like it. Terrorists and their masters want Kashmir to be destroyed again. That is why such a big conspiracy was hatched. The unity of the country is our biggest strength in this war against terrorism. We need to strengthen our resolve to face this challenge,” the Prime Minister told the countrymen.
