Brahma asked some people about the location of the upper part of the pillar of light. Some people could not reach the upper part of the pillar of light and answered Brahma, who was falling from the shoulder. Brahma told some people about his failure and requested some people for help. The gods persuaded some people to give false testimony before Mahadev. Some agreed with Brahma. Then both of them came to the assembly of gods. Brahma revealed that he had reached the top of the pillar of light to protect his dignity and had brought some flowers from Mahadev’s head. To instill confidence in Mahadev’s mind, some people gave false testimony before the gods and said that Brahma had ascended to the top of the pillar of light and brought him. But he revealed that Vishnu was unable to reach the bottom of the pillar of light.
Mahadev, who knew Brahma was lying, cursed him because he was lying. That Brahma would always remain untouchable in the mortal world. That is why Brahma is not worshipped in the mortal world. Some also received a curse that he would no longer worship Mahadev because he had given false testimony. Since Vishnu had spoken the truth, he would be worshipped in the mortal world together with Vishnu in the name of Harihar. Since that day, Vishnu and Shiva have been worshipped in the mortal world in the form of Harihar. And Brahma remained untouchable. Some people begged for forgiveness from Mahadev for giving false testimony to Brahma. Some people were moved by the fervent pleas of some and forbade him from placing flowers on Mahadev’s head every day, but on the day of Mahashivaratri, he allowed some flowers to be placed on Mahadev’s head. Mahadev declared that whoever offers some flowers to the Shivalinga on the day of Shivaratri will be blessed with the blessings of Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwar. Therefore, offering some flowers to the Shivalinga on the day of Shivaratri has a special significance.
