Vicky Kaushal’s film ,Viewers used to go to cinema halls to watch movies on the big screen, but now they have to watch long advertisements while watching movies. The duration of the movie is short, but the time is getting longer due to these advertisements. In this case, a district consumer court in Bengaluru has held theater PVR Inox guilty of delaying the movie screening by airing excessive advertisements and termed it an ‘unfair’ business practice. The court has fined the multiplex and ordered it to pay Rs 1 lakh as compensation and also ensure that the actual start time of the movie is clearly communicated to the audience.It is worth noting that in December 2023, a Bengaluru resident filed the case after watching the 4:05 PM show of the movie ‘Sam Bahadur’ with two members of his family. Due to the late advertisement, the film started at 4:30 PM, which disrupted their schedule and also wasted their time. The complainant was awarded Rs 20,000 for inconvenience and mental harassment and Rs 8,000 separately for legal expenses.The court emphasized that in today’s fast-paced world, time is very valuable, and no business has the right to take undue advantage of the time and money of its customers. The court said that spending 25 to 30 minutes watching an advertisement is a huge waste of time, especially for those whose daily lifestyle is very busy. People want entertainment to relieve their worries, but that does not mean that they do not have other responsibilities.
