Why Is Akshaya Tritiya Celebrated in India – The festival of Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated every year on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of the month of Vaishakh. The day of Akshaya Tritiya comes in the category of auspicious. Treta Yuga is also considered to have started on this day. It is said that the work done on this day yields Akshaya fruits. ‘Na Kshay Iti Akshaya’ means that which never decays is Akshaya. Apart from auspicious deeds or charity, performing tarpan and pinddaan for ancestors is also important on this day. On this day, one must definitely donate earthen pots filled with water to ancestors. Why is Akshaya Tritiya considered special?
According to religious beliefs, Satyayug and Tretayug started on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. Apart from this, Parshuram Jayanti is also celebrated on the Tritiya of Vaishakh Shukla Paksha. It is believed that Parshuram ji was born on this day. On this day, the idol of Parshuram ji is worshipped in the first prahar of the night i.e. immediately after sunset. It is celebrated especially in the southern part of India. Apart from this, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, the feet of Shri Vigraha are visible in the temple of Shri Banke Bihari ji in Vrindavan only on this day of Akshaya Tritiya.
Along with this, on this day, the doors of the famous pilgrimage site Badrinarayana, situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand, also open. Actually, the doors of Badrinarayana are closed for about six months around November, and today, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, these doors are opened, but let us tell you that even when the doors are closed, the eternal flame keeps burning inside the temple.
In fact, on the day the temple doors are closed, a big lamp is filled with enough ghee to last for six months, and the Akhand Jyoti is lit, and on that day too, Lord Badrinarayan is specially worshipped. After that, the idol of the Lord is placed in the Narasimha temple of Jyotirman, about 40 miles away from the temple. Then today, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, when the doors are opened again, the idol is placed back in the Badrinarayan temple. On this occasion, Lord Badrinarayan is specially worshipped, and devotees come from far and wide to have the darshan of the Lord and to see the Akhand Jyoti.
