Will The New Toll Tax System Be Implemented From May 1? Know The Government Answer
Toll Tax System –Satellite-based tolling system to be launched from May 1, 2025. This system will replace the existing FASTag-based toll collection system. These days, much such news is being circulated at a fast pace. No decision has been taken by the government in this regard so far or by the NHAI.
‘To enable hassle-free and smooth movement of vehicles through the toll plazas and reduce travel time, ANPR-FASTag based barrier-free tolling system will be implemented at some toll plazas.’ The tolling technology combines ‘Automatic Number Plate Recognition’ (ANPR) technology. With the help of this technique, toll fee will be deducted without stopping at the toll plaza. High-powered ANPR cameras and FASTag readers installed under the system will facilitate this task.

The special thing is that e-notices will be sent to those violating the rules. If this is not paid, then FASTag will be suspended. NHAI has floated an auction for an ‘ANPR-FASTag-based hassle-free tolling system’.
It is worth noting that this technology will be installed only at selected toll plazas. This is currently a pilot project. If the efficiency and performance of this system are found to be good, then a decision will be taken to implement this technology across the country.
