23rd Commonwealth Games kicks off today, check India’s Day-1 schedule: The 23rd Commonwealth Games will begin today in Glasgow, Scotland. More than 3,000 players from 74 countries are participating in the event. Indian athletes are all expected to perform better at the Commonwealth Games.
India will be participating in the Commonwealth Games for the 19th time starting from July 23. These games will continue till August 2. Last time the Commonwealth Games were held in Birmingham, England, India witnessed a spectacular performance and won a total of 61 medals. This year’s Commonwealth is going to be more compact, featuring only 10 sports and a total of 215 medal events.
Talking about the first day’s schedule, Indian players will play group stage matches in both women’s and men’s categories of lawn balls. Apart from this, the Indian team will take part in the opening ceremony in the evening. The opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games will be held at Ovo Hydro, Glasgow.
India’s schedule for the first day at the Commonwealth Games
Men’s Singles Group Stage (Lawn Balls) – 2 PM IST
Women’s Pairs Group Stage (Lawn Balls) – 2 PM IST
Opening Ceremony – 10:30 PM IST
The Commonwealth Games 2026 in India will be broadcast live on TV on Sony Sports Network while online live streaming will be done on the Sony Live app, where fans can easily log in and watch the events. These games will start at 1:30 pm IST while most of the medal events will start at 9:30 pm which can be held till late night.
Even though the Commonwealth Games 2026 will feature only 10 sports, some Indian athletes are expected to win multiple medals. The names include Neeraj Chopra in javelin throw, Meerabai Chanu in weightlifting, Murali Sreesankar in long jump, Lovelina Borgohen in boxing and Tulika Mann in judo.
