IMD Issues All-India Rain Alert: Red Alert in Himachal Pradesh: Heavy to very heavy rains are continuing in Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rains occurred in many areas on Monday. Heavy rains are continuing on Tuesday as well. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for many areas on Tuesday and an orange alert for Wednesday. Train services are disrupted due to rain, and schools and colleges have been closed.
Heavy Rain Warning: Rain has created havoc in many states of the country. Himachal Pradesh is also in a bad condition. Heavy rain is falling in many areas on Tuesday (September 2). Life has been disrupted due to torrential rain. Due to rain, rail service was suspended, and 1,311 roads, including six national highways, were closed for traffic. Schools have been closed in many districts. The local Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain for the next two days. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in some areas for September 2 and an orange alert for heavy rain on September 3 as well.
More than 1000 roads are closed
Due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, roads have been closed for traffic in many areas. 289 roads in Mandi, 241 in Shimla, 239 in Chamba, 169 in Kullu, and 127 in Sirmaur district are closed for traffic. The State Emergency Operations Center said that National Highway 3 (Mandi-Dharampur Road), NH 305 (Aut-Sainj), NH 5 (Old Hindustan-Tibet Road), NH 21 (Chandigarh-Manali Road), NH 505 (Khab to Gramphu Road), and NH 707 (Hatkoti to Ponta) have been blocked. The condition of the interior areas is also bad due to the rain. Officials said that on Monday, there was a landslide on the Shimla-Kalka railway line, after which trains were canceled. This service will remain suspended till September 5. A house under construction was damaged due to a landslide in Kullu.
Schools and colleges closed in many areas
Due to heavy rains, schools and colleges in nine districts of the state were closed on Monday. On Tuesday, all educational institutions in Shimla, Kangra, Sirmaur, Una, Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Lahaul-Spiti, and Solan districts, besides Kullu and Manali, were closed. Efforts are being made to send back home about 5,000 Mani Mahesh pilgrims stranded in the Chamba district. Officials said that 16 pilgrims have died so far since the yatra began on August 15. Naina Devi has received 198.2 mm of rain since last Monday evening, which is the highest in the state.
Heavy rain continues in many districts
If we look at the figures, many districts are receiving heavy rainfall. 80 mm of rain was recorded in Rohru. 61.2 mm of rain was recorded in Jot, 58.5 mm in Baggi, 55.2 mm in Kukumseri, 53 mm in Naidun, 50 mm in Olinda, 49.8 mm in Nangal Dam, 49 mm in Una, 47.7 mm in Bhuntar, and 40.2 mm in Bilaspur. According to SEOC figures, at least 327 people have died in rain-related incidents and road accidents since the onset of the monsoon, while 41 people are missing. There have been 95 flash floods, 45 cloudbursts, and 115 massive landslides in the state since June 20.
